HIV/AIDS Epidemic:

Today, approximately 40 million people are HIV+, two thirds (63%) of them live in Sub-Saharan Africa.

3 million people died from Aids during 2006 alone. Three-quarters (72%) of all adult and child death in 2006 occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.
At the end of 2004 there were already 12 million aids orphans in Africa.
This number will grow to 18 million children orphaned by Aids by the end of 2010 in sub-Saharan Africa alone! (Data Unicef Oct 2005)

More than 70% of this vast number of children will not have HIV. Subsequently, they have the potential to become either a very negative or very positive influence on the sub-continent – these children desperately need our help.

If we can nurture, educate and mentor as many of these children as possible we stand a chance of minimizing the impact of a lost generation that will become the Achilles heel of Africa.
