The Africa Challenge:

Departing Cape Town in the latter half of 2008, I will kayak the entire coastline of Africa (32 000km) on a surf ski (sea kayak) to raise awareness about the plight of Hiv/AIDS in Africa. This is the equivalent of paddling New York to London nearly 6 times! Or the equivalent distance Cape Town to London and back, TWICE. I will have a back-up Catamaran (with crew) that will sail alongside me to feed me and provide shelter for sleeping at night.

Treacherous seas, gale-force winds, tropical cyclones, icy waters, pirates, civil war, unrest, soaring temperatures and encounters with ocean animal life will all contribute to the enormity of the task.  I will call in at designated ports along the way for re-supplies and contact with local Hiv/AIDS NGO’s. I plan to return to Cape Town by the 11th June 2010, in time for the start of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
